Prestressed slabs on grade

Prestressed slabs on grade

Prestressed slabs on grade

One of the fundamental issues associated with the operation of industrial floors is cracking. They appear as a result of local overloads, incorrect recognition of soil conditions, fatigue and, above all, the natural property of reinforced and standard concrete - their use in the cracked phase. Prestressed slabs on grade avoids such problems. Through implementation of prestressed tendons the flooring remains permanently compressed. Thanks to the elimination of tensile stresses in the concrete, no cracks can take place, not to mention the elimination of consequences of such defects, mainly crumbling and gathering of impurities within the cracks. Prestressed floors are also characterised by a higher tolerance to soil conditions. Thus, they are a techically effective and economically viable solution wherever high loads, hygienic requirements or necessity to maintain trafiic come into play. The benefits are truly noticed, however, when we pay mind to the costs of maintenance and repairs i.e. the general cost of a lifespan of an LCC product. Prestressed floors prove themselves in storage and logistical centres, agro-industries or sports facilities.

Industrial prestressed slabs on grade have been in use worldwide for several decades, but they have achieved their highest popularity in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. In Poland, they have been in use successfully for many years.
