Proven and safe cantilevered construction technology, used by BBR Poland, is often suitable and cost-effective for building large-span concrete bridges where height, topography, or geotechnical conditions make the use of conventional formwork uneconomical.
The economical span range for the bridge superstructure constructed using this method starts at around 70 m and extends beyond 250 m.
The construction process begins with the starting segment, a short section of the superstructure above the support. Concrete pouring formworktravelers are installed on the starting segment, which are used to construct the initial segments. After prestressing, the traveller moves onto the completed segment, and the next segment is constructed. In this way, the entire structure is built in sections measuring 3 to 5 m in length.
In the traditional approach, two bridge cantilever parts are constructed simultaneously, starting from the starting segment in opposite directions, known as a balanced cantilever. It is also possible to construct only one span when the structure is anchored in the ground or a counterweight span is precast.
